October 2009 Auction Report
The October sale included a biannual Sporting
sale, of which the highlights were lots 460 to 464, and included in
excess of three hundred pre-war Portsmouth home programmes dating
from 1935 to 1940. They created a lot of interest with two telephone
lines and bids in excess of £28,000. There was also a specialist
Collectors sale, which included a good collection of Britains
Soldiers: Regiments of all Nations (lots 261-273), within original
boxes, which fetched over £1000, a Dinky Toys Lady Penelope FAB 1
(lot 298), in original box, made £150 and a Victorian walking doll
(lot 339) sold for £500. Highlights of the Militaria section
included a mid-19th Century percussion blunderbuss (lot 359) which
realised £500 and a World War I 1914-15 star medal trio (lot 390),
sold for £520. Other highlights in the sale included a 19th Century
Japanese carved ivory group making £2000 (lot 193), an 18ct yellow
gold solitaire ring, approx 3.15ct, made £1200 (lot 146A), a George
III mahogany serpentine commode chest fetched £1800 (lot 657), a
George II walnut bureau bookcase realised £1500 (lot 728) and a set
of six Regency mahogany dining chairs made £1250 (lot 655)
