October 2008 Auction Report
 

The October Sale included a specialist Pictures & Books Sale, the main attraction being Valentine Thomas Garland, ‘Portrait of a foxhound puppy looking out through a barn window’ (lot 66). Five telephone lines contested it to £7500. Other pictures of note included a Leonard Russell Squirrell, ‘Breadfield Street, Woodbridge’ that fetched £980 (lot 119) and a William Lionel Wyllie, with local interest that made £1350 (lot 76).

Highlights of the Ceramics section included a set of three first period Worcester plates fetching £100 (lot 10), a pair of 19th Century Canton large oviform vases with hardwood stands fetching £420 (lot 8) and a 19th Century Hungarian rectangular platter making £340 (lot 25). The Stamps & Postcards included a large stamp and first day covers collection fetching £330 (lot 151) and another similar large collection fetching £300 (lot 157).

Interesting in the Works of Art section were a pair of late 19th Century Chinese red lacquer inlaid plaques fetching £620 (lot 226).

Best of the Furniture section included a circular specimen marble topped table fetching £460 (lot 315), a Regency mahogany wine cooler making £620 (lot 329), an early 19th Century oak Wellington chest fetching £900 (lot 332), a George III oak dresser making £1650 (lot 370) and  (Lot 372) A George III mahogany linen press
