The March sale at Jacobs & Hunt included a specialist Silver and
Jewellery sale, with some fine items consigned mainly from three
deceased estates. The sale began with the Silver section, and
the highlights included a George II silver cow creamer by John
Schuppe and dated 1758, fetching £5500 (lot 146), a George III
Scottish large venison dish totalling 182ozs made £4200 (lot 143)
and a large and impressive Irish silver two handled tray with two
similar en suite smaller trays fetched £2050 (lot 186). Other
highlights included a pair of George II silver candlesticks by
Richard Rugg which sold for £1900 (lot 166). There were various
large silver canteens of flatware, to include an Irish canteen with
the O’Callaghan family crest by Robert F Mosley fetching £1550 (lot
187), a Victorian silver canteen of flatware, mainly by George Adams
fetched £1350 (lot 136), and another Scottish canteen of cutlery
fetched £1350 (lot 157). Also included in the silver sale was a
private collection of silver miniature samples or toy, to include a
Victorian Irish silver four piece tea and coffee service which sold
for £1150 (lot 191), a George I silver miniature warming pan by
David Clayton made £550 (lot 189), a George I silver miniature plate
stand also by David Clayton fetched £1000 (lot 190), and a George I
miniature kettle on stand fetched £400 (lot 195). Highlights of the
Watches section included a mid-18th Century pair cased pocket
watch by Henry Hurt which, despite not being in the best condition,
still fetched £1000 (lot 217) and an 18ct gold blue enamel pocket
watch by James McCabe fetched £420 (lot 209). Highlights of the
Jewellery section included an 18ct yellow and white gold diamond
and ruby set bracelet by Kutchinsky which realised 3200 (lot 226)
and from the same maker was a gold ruby and diamond encrusted large
pendant which fetched £2700 (lot 227), an 18ct gold diamond cluster
ring made £1500 (lot 253), a gold diamond and sapphire cluster ring
sold for £1550 (lot 248), an 18ct gold diamond encrusted brooch in
the form of a butterfly reached £1250 (lot 259) and a pair of Art
Deco gold diamond encrusted drop earrings made £1550 (lot 260), an
18ct gold enamel and diamond encrusted brooch in the form of a
capercaillie fetched £880 (lot 265) and a platinum three stone
diamond ring fetched £1050 (lot 294). The Furniture section
included an Edwardian mahogany bureau cabinet realised £600 (lot
634), a Regency Irish mahogany sideboard fetched £720 (lot 689), a
George III tulip wood banded sideboard made £1550 (lot 676), a set
of eight Chippendale style mahogany dining chairs fetched £800 (lot
