The sale began with the
specialist Silver and Jewellery sale. The Silver section had
its highlights, the main highlights being a Victorian silver large two
handled presentation rose bowl by Elkington & Co fetching £4600 (lot
113). Other highlights included an unusual Arts & Crafts silver dish
silver stand fetching £1100 (lot 110) and a sterling silver canteen of
cutlery fetching £920 (lot 79). Highlights of the Jewellery section
included an 18ct white gold solitaire diamond ring fetching £2500 (lot
260) and an 18ct gold three stone diamond ring fetching £2400 (lot
282), an 18ct gold brooch by Cartier fetched £820 (lot 153), a gold
brooch in the form of a butterfly with rubies, sapphires, emeralds and
diamonds fetched £980 (lot 285) and a pair of 18ct white gold and
diamond stud earrings fetched £920 (lot 278). The highlights of the
Ceramics included a 19th Century Berlin porcelain plaque fetching
£1050 (lot 419), an unusual early 19th Century Prattware pipe fetching
£380 (lot 319) and a 19th Century French enamel and gilded metal
casket fetching £460 (lot 423). The highlight of the Picture
section was a collection of 16 pen and ink small illustrations by
Arthur Rackham, collected by a friend who worked with him at the
Westminster Fire Office, fetching £1000 (lot 484). The highlights of
the Works of Arts were an ivory sectional walking cane fetching
£210 (lot 562), a taxidermy snow leopard skin fetching £700 (lot 568),
a 19th Century tortoiseshell and white metal mounted casket fetching
£700 (lot 604), a mahogany and glazed barograph fetching £460 (lot
624) and a Chinese red cinnabar vase stand, sold on behalf of Cancer
Research, fetched £1650 (lot 633). The Clocks and Barometers
had its highlights with a gilt metal and porcelain mounted three piece
clock garniture fetching £400 (lot 648) and a 19th Century patinated
bronze and ormolu timepiece, unusually in the form of a dog carrying
basket, fetching £2800 (lot 654) and a George III mahogany longcase
clock fetching £800 (lot 649). The Antique Furniture section
had its highlights with a William IV mahogany extending dining table
with four leaves fetching £2000 (lot 843), a 17th Century oak moulded
chest fetched £850 (lot 788), a set of ten Hepplewhite style dining
chairs fetched £2000 (lot 840), a George III mahogany chest on chest
fetched £1250 (lot 780), a large oak refectory dining table fetched
£1400 (lot 772) and a Victorian mahogany wind-out extending dining
table with three extra leaves fetched £1100 (lot 894).
