June 2007 Auction Report
The June Sale began with Ceramics which was led by a
large private collection of Staffordshire figures and groups, in
excess of eighty pieces, some with damage, which raised over £4000.
Also in the Ceramics section was a late 18th/early 19th Century
Chinese vase which, despite having a large piece missing, still
fetched £880 proving the Chinese market is still very strong. Other
highlights in the Ceramics were a Wedgwood lustre large octagonal bowl
fetching £220, a large Belleek tray fetching £240 and a pair of large
19th Century Meissen deep dishes fetching £800. Highlights of the
Book section included Gerrards Herbal, one volume, dated 1636,
which fetched £1000 and A.A. Milne, The House at Pooh Corner, first
edition fetched £420 and Ian Fleming’s On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
fetched £200.
Interesting in the Works of Art Section were a late 18th/early
19th Century Chinese marble plaque fetching £420, a brass two-draw
telescope within fitted case fetching £320. The Clocks and
Barometers section included a George III North Country oak and
mahogany longcase clock fetching £430 and a George III mahogany
longcase clock fetching £500. Accenting the Furniture section
were a Victorian mahogany pull out dining table with three original
leaves fetching £3000, an 18th Century walnut cabinet on chest with an
interesting arrangement of drawers and alcoves fetching £2900, a
Regency mahogany large breakfast table fetching £1250, a large oak
refectory dining table fetched £1000, a pair of leather wingback
armchairs fetched £850, a William IV rosewood chiffonier made £820 and
a Victorian walnut Davenport made £700.
