The July Auction included a specialist silver and jewellery sale. The
silver section was highlighted by a good early Victorian silver
gilt castle top vinaigrette by Edward Smith, dated 1847, fetching £740
(lot 157), a George V silver hip flask by Mappin & Web fetched £200
(lot 92), a Victorian silver mounted claret jug, despite damage,
fetched £210 (lot 155), and a Victorian silver three piece tea service
fetched £230 (lot 168). Glittering in the jewellery section
were a pair of yellow metal diamond set lobed ear clips, approximately
4.59 carats, fetching £3500, a Rolex Oyster Chronometer Automatic
stainless steel cased wristwatch fetched £230 (lot 194), a Breitling
stainless steel chronograph wristwatch fetched £600 (lot 201),a 14
carat gold covered wristwatch inset with diamonds fetched £150 (lot
203), a platinum diamond cluster ring fetched £600 (lot 251), an 18
carat white gold three stone diamond ring, approximately 2.20 carat,
fetched £3100 (lot 298), an 18 carat gold solid belcher link bracelet
fetched £1720 (lot 314), a similar smaller bracelet fetched £920 (lot
313), an Art Nouveau gold and silver pendant with ten opal cabochons
and twenty one rose cut diamonds fetched £2000 (lot 307). The
ceramics section included a good collection of Meissen with a 19th
Century Meissen cabaret set fetching £460 (lot 482), and a 19th
Century Meissen group fetching £340 (lot 480), and a good Wedgwood
lustre large bowl, 23 cm diameter, fetched £500 (lot 415). The
picture section had two good watercolours by Frederick Goodall,
1822-1904, fetching £500 (lot 499) and £560 (lot 500). Also in this
section was a pair of 19th Century Dutch School oils fetching £150
(lot 514). The works of Art had some unusual items, to include
a Georgian Irish large brass cased compass fetching £280 (lot 559), a
George III brass-bound oval peat bucket fetching £220 (lot 562), and
three bronze medallions fetching £100, £80 and £150 (lots 621, 622,
623). The star of the antique furniture section was a locally
consigned William IV mahogany sarcophagus wine cooler, probably Irish,
fetching £5200 (lot 770). Other highlights included a 17th Century oak
wainscot chair fetching £1000 (lot 721), an unusual Arts & Crafts oak
sideboard fetching £500 (lot 725), a Regency mahogany architect’s
table fetching £2500 (lot 731), a William IV mahogany sideboard
fetching £700 (lot 758), a George III mahogany Gainsborough armchair
fetching £1500 (lot 762) and a 19th Century mahogany twin pedestal
desk fetching £640 (lot 804).
