The July Sale had in excess of one thousand lots and were
spread over two days, with the specialist Silver and Jewellery Sale held
on Thursday 27th. Despite high temperatures it was a busy sale
with good prices attained.The Silver Plate section had a good set of four
Sheffield plated candlesticks, despite damage they fetched £300.
The Foreign Metalware section heralded an unusual glass and
wirework fretted bowl with enamel flowerheads, possibly French, fetching
£1000. The Modern Silver section heralded over two hundred lots, to
include an Edwardian silver spirit coffee pot, fetching £250, a George V
silver six-division toast rack with spirit burner by Asprey fetching
£330. A George V silver and cut glass lidded claret jug by Hukin & Heath
fetched £200. The Antique Silver section included a pair of George III
silver navette tea vases fetching £190, a George IV mug by the Barnard
family fetching £130, a Victorian silver mounted and cut glass large scent
bottle fetching £290, a pair of George III silver navette two-handled
sucrier by Henry Chawner fetching £430, a George III silver mug by John
Denwall fetching £330, a George V silver larger spirit kettle with stand
fetching £850, a large Victorian silver canteen of cutlery fetching £880.
This all proving that the silver market is still buoyant.
There was much interest in the Jewellery Section, the highlight being a
large solitaire diamond ring fetching £2700, an 18ct.gold cluster ring of
approximately 2.2.cts fetching £1600, an 18ct.gold five stone diamond ring
fetching £960, a large diamond and pearl ring fetching £940 and a gold
butterfly form brooch by Mappin Bros. fetching £720.
On Day 2 the Ceramics included a pair of Continental porcelain gilded
goblets, probably Berlin, fetching £660 and an 18th Century
Chinese large vase fetching £900, proving the Chinese market to be very
strong. Another Chinese blue bottle neck vase fetched £550.
Jacobs and Hunt are now holding regular specialist fine art Picture Sales,
of which July was the first. There was much interest and the sale
included a Charles Frederick Tunnicliffe, ‘The May Stallion’, fetching
£3500, Henry Woods ‘A View of Venice from a Terrace’ £820. There were
three Ernest Arthur Rowe watercolours fetching in excess of £2000
collectively. Alfred East ‘Figures on a Track within a Rural Landscape’
made £720, Henry Williams ‘A Moonlit Autumnal Street Scene’ made £460.
The Clocks and Barometers Section included a George III oak longcase clock
fetching £980 and a brass lantern clock fetching £300.
The Furniture Section held in excess of two hundred and fifty lots, to
include a Regency mahogany sofa table fetching £950, a George III oak mule
chest fetching £650, an 18th Century oak large bacon cupboard
fetching £800. |
