July 2009 Auction Report

 

The July sale included a specialist Silver and Jewellery sale starting with the Silver and Plate which included a pair of Victorian large and impressive silver plated interchangeable candelabra fetching £350 (lot 7).  Highlights of the Silver section included an Edwardian silver spirit kettle which made £500 (lot 122), a pair of George II or George III silver candlesticks which reached £900 (lot 102), a George III Irish silver basket of navette form made £320 (lot 99) and a pair of 18th Century style silver candelabra fetched £250 (lot 76). Highlights of the Watches section included a Rolex oyster perpetual date just self winding 18ct white gold and stainless steel gentleman’s wristwatch which achieved £1500 (lot 133), a Breitling automatic chronometer gentleman’s wristwatch fetched £800 (lot 134) and a Rolex 9ct gold chronometer gentleman’s wristwatch made £660 (lot 140). Highlights of the Jewellery included a platinum solitaire diamond ring which realised £3000 (lot 166), a collection of ten gold Krugerrand fetched in excess of £5000 (lots 175-184).  Other highlights included a gold flowerhead brooch by Garrard, set with rubies and diamonds which sold for £230 (lot 260).  Highlights of the Ceramics section included a 19th Century small phrenology head by F Bridges which made £300 (lot 372) and a late 18th Century pearlware group fetched £115 (lot 367). Highlights of the Works of Arts section included an early Russian icon which made £4200 (lot 484), a presentation large telescope presented by George IV on board the Royal George yacht which reached £1250 (lot 504) and a French silver Butterfield compass dial sold for £2500 (lot 514).  Highlights of the Clocks and Barometers included a George III mahogany longcase clock which reached £750 (lot 522).  Highlights of the Furniture included a William and Mary marquetry inlaid chest fetching £1600 (lot 645), a 17th Century oak and laburnum veneered straight front chest fetched £700 (lot 662), a George III mahogany knee hold desk reached £680 (lot 667), a set of twelve late 19th Century Chippendale style dining chairs fetched £1100 (lot 665) and an ebonised ivory mother-of-pearl  and brass inlaid bonheur du jour fetched £700 (lot 759).
