February 2011 Auction Report

 

 

The highlight of the February Sale was a 17th Century Italian pietra dura panel, locally consigned, which caused immense interest from Italy and commanded seven telephone lines and numerous commission bids, finally selling at £37,000 (Lot 432).

Other highlights of the sale were a collection of George III Irish furniture, of which a George III Irish mahogany serving table made £3,600 (Lot 713), another George III Irish mahogany serving table made £1,100 (Lot 696), a similar fold-over tea table made £1,000 (Lot 702) and a Regency Irish mahogany partners’ desk fetched £920 (Lot 709).  Also in the furniture section a pair of Sheraton demi-lune mahogany and inlaid console tables made £2,900 (Lot 643).

 In the Works of Art section a pair of Qianlong baluster form covered vases made £2,500 (Lot 284).  An early Chinese patinated bronze model in the form of Buddha made £2,300 (Lot 484). 

From the Silver and Jewellery section, highlights included an extensive French silver canteen of cutlery, which fetched £2,300 (Lot 27), an 18ct.gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual gentleman’s wristwatch made £1,250 (Lot 116), a William IV silver four-piece tea service made £1,250 (Lot 65), an 800 mark silver five-piece tea service fetched £1,100 (Lot 29), a Breitling Navitimer Jupiter gentleman’s wristwatch fetched £1,000 (Lot 124) and a George III large silver oval plaque fetched £920.
