The December sale was a very busy sale firstly because cash
in the attic were filming an episode with a consignment from a
family in Surrey and secondly a large consignment from a private
house locally provided a very good collection of Chinese porcelain,
furniture and works of art.
The Sale started with the Ceramics section, which included
Chinese porcelain such as a 17th Century Chinese underglaze blue
brush pot decorated with Scholars attracting £6000 and a 19th
Century Chinese large water cistern fetching £5800. Further lots
included A Chinese 19th Century large Canton bowl which sold for
£1550 and a Chinese 19th Century underglaze blue decorated
bottleneck vase which made £1950. Other interests of the Ceramics
section included a Royal Worcester Ewer decorated by Charles Baldwin
fetching £1450, and an unusual Minton Majolica model in the
form of a dog holding a hat upon a blue glazed cushion which sold
for £700.
In the Pictures & Books section was a charcoal and chalk
study by Edward Robert Hughes (1851 – 1914 British) making £520.
Highlights of the Works of Art section included a 19th Century
French patinated bronze model in the form of a cherub that made
£1900, a large Edwardian taxidermy model of two salmon that fetched
£1000 and an unusual Victorian carved walnut table mirror in the
form of musical instruments that realised £440. Within the
Collectors’ Section there was an early Humpty Dumpty circus that
made £500 and a one inch scale large steam model of a traction
engine that sold for £630.
Most interesting in the Clocks and Barometers was a William
IV mahogany drop dial wall clock inscribed J. Harrison, Liverpool
fetching £1700, an early 18th Century bracket clock by John Pepys of
London making £2500 and a Victorian brass gothic style skeleton
clock with glass dome realising £640.
Highlights of the Furniture Section included a George III
mahogany serpentine commode chest fetching £2900, an Italian painted
bureau bookcase making £2700, a George II figured walnut chest on
chest fetching £1950, another George III mahogany serpentine commode
chest realising £1500, a George III oak dresser making £1200, a late
Georgian D-end dining table making £1150, a George III mahogany
secretaire bookcase fetching £920, a Regency gilded and ebonised
shaped over mantel mirror which sold for £780 and a Regency mahogany
sofa table which sold for £880.

An unusual Victorian carved walnut table mirror in the form of
