Despite the world wide financial climate the April sale was a
busy affair, the best section being the specialist Pictures and
Books which included an early 19th Century Italian School set of six
watercolours fetching £3000 (lot 172) and a similar pair of Italian
watercolours fetching £1750 (lot 173). Also in the painting section
Alexandre Jacob (French) made £2400 (lot 132) and another similar
smaller by the same artist sold for £1600 (lot 131). James Mclean, a
large highland river scene with figures fishing reached £1800 (lot
89), after Mierevelt, portrait of a nobleman in armour, made £1200
(lot 110), after Van Dyck, late 18th Century portrait of Charles II
realised £800 (lot 87) and a pair of large full length portraits,
late 19th Century, fetched £780 (lot 88). Other highlights in the
sale included an 18ct white gold three stone diamond ring which sold
for £1450 (lot 216), a set of six matched George III elm Windsor
armchairs reached £1200 (lot 427), a George III mahogany floral
marquetry inlaid linen press realised £1150 (lot 454), a 19th
Century French walnut and ebonised side cabinet fetched £1100 (lot
487), a fine George III mahogany tip top table made £1050 (lot 442),
an 18th Century walnut bureau fetched £1000 (lot 459), a Regency
gilded triple arch mirror sold for £900 (lot 439) and a 19th Century
mahogany tall chest fetched £1050 (lot 415)
