The March sale included a specialist Silver and
Jewellery sale. It began with the Foreign Metals to include an
extensive continental 800 mark silver canteen of cutlery fetching
£2200 (lot 25). From the same vendor came a large collection of 800
mark silver and also a large portion of the jewellery, to include the
gold bullion bars and many items of fine jewellery. Also within the
Foreign Metals there was a silver gilt drinking set by Bointaburet á
Paris fetching £640 (lot 55), a continental mark silver scallop form
dish fetching £200 (lot 57). The Silver section included an Art Deco
silver four piece tea service fetching £880 (lot 95), a George VI
silver two handled tray fetching £700 (lot 94), a George II silver
gilt salver by George Wickes fetching £940 (lot 117) and a set of
twelve Victorian silver dessert knives and forks fetching £340 (lot
139). The Jewellery section included a single vendor collection to
include the nine 100g fine gold bars fetching in excess of £10,000, an
18ct white and yellow gold diamond encrusted and blue enamel panel
bracelet fetching £920 (lot 182). Also within the jewellery was an Art
Deco white metal diamond and sapphire encrusted bracelet with a pair
of matched earrings fetching £3200 (lot 218) and, probably the star, a
pair of Art Deco white metal diamond and pearl drop earrings by
Tessiers Ltd, New Bond Street, London, fetching £4900 (lot 219), also
a 18ct white gold three stone diamond ring fetching £1600 (lot 293)
and an 18ct gold two stone diamond ring fetching £1050 (lot 294). The
Ceramic section included a pair of late 18th/early 19th Century
Delft lidded vases fetching £140 (lot 484), a bisque model of a veiled
mother and child by the Ceramic and Crystal Palace Art Union fetching
£620 (lot 425) and the highlight of the ceramic sale with the Royal
Doulton figure ‘The Bather’, modelled by John Broad circa 1912,
fetching £2000 (lot 469). Highlights of the Works of Art
included a pair of large patinated bronze figures Napoleonic Soldiers
fetching £450 (lot 596) and an unusual French brass jewellery box in
the form of a beehive mounted with cornelian and tiger’s eye fetching
£185 (lot 569). The Clocks and Barometers highlights included a
William IV mahogany longcase clock fetching £1200 (lot 635).
Highlights of the Furniture section included a George I walnut
chest on stand fetching £1200 (lot 710), an early 19th Century
mahogany library partners’ table fetching £620 (lot 712), a 19th
Century satinwood bow fronted painted commode fetching £1250 (lot
736), a 17th Century oak small chest fetching £1500 (lot 733), a
Victorian walnut marquetry inlaid Davenport fetching £700 (lot 764), a
George III mahogany chest on chest fetching £2900 (lot 799) and a set
of eight Edwardian mahogany dining chairs fetching £760 (lot 826)
